A new report from IMDb (Internet Movie Database) has revealed that Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Horizon Forbidden West cost over €110 million ($118 million) to develop and market. This makes it both the most expensive project in Guerrilla Games history and the most expensive media production in the Netherlands.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has yet to reveal official sales figures for Horizon Forbidden West but it was the ninth best-selling game in both North America and Europe for 2022 so it’s likely that the game did turn a profit. The closest-performing game is Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga which sold around 5 million copies so it’s quite likely that Horizon Forbidden West is around that region too.

The $118 million budget might also seem like quite a bit but it’s worth noting that the Saints Row reboot cost over $100 million and The Callisto Protocol cost over $160 million. The game also has the Burning Shores expansion due out in April 2023 which will also help with its financial performance as the cost of developing DLC is generally far cheaper.

Horizon Forbidden West is currently available on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, the game will also join the PlayStation Plus Extra Catalogue on the 21st of February 2023.
