Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, has revealed that the PlayStation 5 was the best selling console in eleven major markets and that the PlayStation brand is the biggest gaming brand in the world and the seventh biggest brand overall, behind Apple, Peloton, Spotify, Bose, Android and Instant Pot.

Ryan also claims that the demand for the PS5 is at an “unprecedented” level in PlayStation’s history and that the PS5 sold around 80,000 consoles in 82 minutes, while the PS4 sold 80,000 in 9 days at the same stage of its lifecycle. Sony has confirmed that they are working on increasing production levels to “never achieved before” levels in previous generations and that it expects shortages to stabilize by 2024.

Jim Ryan has also confirmed that there will be over 20 major titles from both first-party studios and third-party partners ready for the launch of the PlayStation VR2. Ryan also claimed that Sony is spending a “considerable amount of money” for the launch of PSVR2 and that it will only increase as the install base grows. Sony Interactive Entertainment has yet to reveal the release window for the headset.

The PS5 was the best selling console in the following markets:

  • Australia
  • Canada
  • China
  • France
  • Germany
  • Italy
