A new report from Fanbyte’s Imran Kahn has claimed that Square Enix will be releasing an action-orientated Final Fantasy game for the PlayStation 5, the game is titled Final Fantasy Origin and takes place during the events of the very first Final Fantasy entry. Final Fantasy Origin is reportedly being developed by Koei Tecmo’s Team Ninja, developers of the Nioh series, and will be revealed at E3 2021.

Kahn also claims that Square Enix will do an alpha test for the game in the Summer of 2021 to get feedback, similar to what Team Ninja did with both Nioh games. Final Fantasy Origin will play like Nioh but will be more accessible so that the game can appeal to a wider audience. The Square Enix team behind Dissidia Final Fantasy NT, also developed by Team Ninja, will collaborate on the game.
