Takeo Kujiraoka, director of Final Fantasy XVI – The Rising Tide expansion, has revealed that the game brought a younger audience to the franchise.

According to Kujiraoka-san, recent sales data show that the franchise has skewed “towards a higher age range” but that Final Fantasy XVI has brought a lot of people in their 20s and teens to the series.

Kujiraoka-san claims that bringing younger players to the franchise was one of the development team’s goals so he considers the game a success.

This however doesn’t mean that all future Final Fantasy games will follow the same path but rather that future teams will continue to work on bringing in new players.

Final Fantasy XVI is currently available on the PlayStation 5. A PC port of the game is currently in development. The Final Fantasy XVI – The Rising Tide expansion is due out on the 18th of April 2024.
