Erwan Lafleuriel, editor-in-chief at IGN France, has claimed that Stellar Blade’s Eve is contributing toward the female suicide rate. Lafleuriel responded to a comment on IGN France’s website where a user claimed that women also liked Eve’s design by stating that women are “hit, killed, denigrated” or are even driven to suicide because they are unable to “live up to the fictional standards expected by men”.

Lafleuriel clarified this statement by saying that Eve’s “sexy design” is not the main problem, while also claiming that it is bad when compared to other characters, but rather that it will cater for men that only “want this type of fictional body in reality”. Lafleuriel then attempted to justify these comments by saying that this will shock men who “think that women are objects who must obey and be beaten”.

These comments come after Ben Ossola’s preview post of SHIFT-UP’s Stellar Blade, in which the author went on to insult the game’s director. Something that IGN’s main office went on to apologise for. Lafleuriel’s comments clearly show that IGN France are not of the same mind. He also went on to claim that the outrage from readers was due to them being too “fragile due to being fed the patriarchy”.

Stellar Blade is due out on the 26th of April 2024 for the PlayStation 5. It is currently the most pre-ordered game in almost all PSN regions.
