Hiroki Totoki, president of Sony Group, has confirmed that Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will release during the 2023 financial year. Totoki-san spoke to investors and assured them that the game will release before the 31st of March 2024, Totoki-san also confirmed that Sony will release more PC ports of PlayStation Studios titles this year.
Totoki-san also revealed that Sony Group expect first-party sales to drop during the 2023 financial year, whilst he didn’t elaborate any further this shouldn’t come as a surprise as the PlayStation live-service push is expected to kick off in full swing this year. Currently, the only major first-party “blockbuster” title with a release window is Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 with the majority of other titles being live-service games.
Naughty Dog is expected to share more about its Last of Us multiplayer titles later this year, Guerrilla Games is working on a Monster Hunter-esque Horizon title and pretty much all other first-party studios are working on multiplayer projects too. One of the reasons why Sony could be expecting a drop in sales is due to these titles being free-to-play.
