Sony Group Corporation has released its financial results for the fourth quarter of the 2022 financial year, this is for the three-month period ending on the 31st of March 2023. Below you can find a breakdown of both Sony’s overall performance and Sony Interactive Entertainment’s performance.

Highlights:

• 6.3 million PlayStation 5 consoles were shipped over the three-month period, total PS5 shipments have now surpassed 38.4 million. This is a record for Q4, the record was previously held by the PlayStation 2 which shipped 6 million in 2005. The PS5 is still tracking behind the PS4 due to stock shortages, the PS4 had shipped 40 million units in the same timeframe.
• 68 million games were sold across the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, 9.5 million of which were published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. This is a steep decline, which Sony claims that it expected. Software sales have been on the decline since the launch of the PS5.
• The digital ratio for the three-month period was 70%.
• PlayStation Plus subscriptions are over 47.4 million, this is a 2.16% increase from the previous quarter. PlayStation Plus has yet to surpass 48 million subscribers.
• Monthly active users on PS4 and PS5 are over 108 million.
• Revenue for the quarter was ¥1073.2 Billion / $8.112 Billion, this is a record high for PlayStation and is by far the highest any platform holder has ever recorded in a single quarter. The venue reached levels comparable to Q3 which is when gaming companies have their best quarter.
• Sony has increased their expectations for the PlayStation 5, it is now expected to ship 25 million during the next fiscal year.
