Tom Henderson, a freelance journalist that’s worked with IGN, VGC, DualShockers and now InsiderGaming, has revealed that Sony is working on a new PlayStation handheld. The handheld is codenamed Q Lite and works through Remote Play, meaning you will still need a PlayStation 5 console and a fast internet connection to use it. This would make sense as Sony Interactive Entertainment has been pushing the Remote Play feature as of late.
There’s no information about hardware but the handheld will stream at 1080p and 60fps. According to Henderson, the device is essentially a DualSense controller with an 8-inch touchscreen LCD slapped in the centre. The device will have the traditional DualSense features like adaptive triggers and will also have dedicated volume buttons as well as speakers.
The handheld is part of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s phase 2 for the PlayStation 5, which now also includes a PS5 with a detachable disc drive, a PS5 Pro, a new range of PS5 headsets and wireless earphones. The handheld is reported set to release after the new PS5 model but before the PS5 Pro.
