Hiroki Totoki, CFO of Sony Group, has revealed that the company has around $5 billion left to spend on acquisitions until 2024 when presumably a new fund will be allocated towards investments. Sony Group confirmed in 2021 that it would be spending $18 billion on “strategic investments”, since then it has acquired minority stakes in the likes of Epic Games, Kadokawa, Discord, Devolver Digital, FromSoftware and several semiconductor manufacturers.
Sony Group has also acquired Bungie, the most expensive acquisition in the company’s history, Crunchyroll, Bluepoint Games, Housemarque, Evolution Championship Series, Nixxes Software, Haven Studios and several other video game studios. Both Sony Interactive Entertainment and Aniplex, which publishes multiplatform games and anime, have also confirmed that they would be continuing to invest in acquisitions.
