Famitsu has reported that the PlayStation 5 has sold over 3,055,112 consoles in Japan as of the 2nd of March 2023. The disc variant of the console accounts for 2,638,017 units sold whilst the digital edition accounts for 419,095. The PS5 is tracking ahead of both the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 which took 125 weeks and 131 weeks respectively. The PS5 achieved the milestone in 121 weeks.
The recent PS5 sales surge across the world is due to the boost in stock availability, although the PS5 is still in short supply in many markets around the world. Sony Interactive Entertainment has confirmed that the PS5 will be easier to obtain in 2023, it has yet to comment on the sales milestone in Japan.
