GfK, a data and analytics company, has announced that God of War Ragnarok achieved the biggest opening in the franchise’s history in the United Kingdom through sales of physical copies alone. Day one sales of physical copies have also surpassed week one sales of God of War (2018).

This is even more impressive considering that sales of physical media in the UK have declined drastically since the release of God of War (2018). GfK has also revealed that 55% of all PlayStation 5 consoles sold during the launch week of God of War Ragnarok have been bundles that included the game.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has yet to reveal sales figures for the game but it’s quite likely that God of War Ragnarok will set a new record for opening week sales. The current record is held by The Last of Us: Part II which sold over 4 million copies within its first three days on the market.
