Hiroki Totoki, CFO of Sony Group, has confirmed that Sony still expects to ship 18 million PlayStation 5 consoles during the 2022 financial year. Totoki-san also revealed that Sony is now producing more PS5 consoles than expected and that the situation is constantly improving.

Sony has shipped 5.7 million PS5 consoles so far this fiscal year, meaning that it still needs to ship another 12.3 million units before March 2023 to meet its target. Sony produced 6.5 million PS5 consoles in the second quarter of the 2022 financial year and claims that it took an average of 17.5 hours to sell 100,000 units in the United States.

Since Sony only shipped 3.3 million consoles in the second quarter, it’s highly likely that they have opted to stockpile units for the holiday season when God of War Ragnarok is launching. Totoki-san also revealed that the PS5 price increase has not lowered the demand for the console but also claimed that Sony will closely monitor the situation with regard to pricing.
