Beau DeMayo, former producer for Netflix’s The Witcher series, has claimed that several members of the production staff “actively disliked” Andrzej Sapkowski’s source material and CD Projekt Red’s video game adaptation of the books. DeMayo also claimed that some of the production team went as far as to mock the books and video games. This, according to DeMayo, is a “recipe for disaster and bad morale”.

DeMayo revealed this during a Q&A session about his upcoming adaptation of X-Men ‘97 where he also revealed that anyone that joined his team had to “HAD to be a fan” of the material and that people had to “respect the work before you’re allowed to add to its legacy”. DeMayo did not reveal any names when speaking about The Witcher and given that there have been several changes to the team each season it’s hard to guess as to who he was talking about.
