Shueisha has announced that Yoshihiro Togashi’s Hunter x Hunter manga will resume serialization on the 24th of October 2022, after an almost 4-year hiatus. The manga, which has been on hiatus since November 2018 and missed over half of its serialization schedule, will return in the 47th issue of the Weekly Shonen Jump. Despite the inconsistency in publishing, Hunter x Hunter has sold over 79 million copies worldwide and has received several anime and video game adaptations.
Togashi-san confirmed that he had returned to working on the Hunter x Hunter manga in May 2022 via Twitter. Togashi-san became the most followed mangaka on Twitter in under a week, amassing over 3 million followers. Kohei Horikoshi, creator of Boku no Hero Academia, is the second most followed mangaka with 2.2 million followers. Togashi-san also revealed the severity of his health issues claiming that he was unable to sit in a chair for almost 2 years and has to draw lying on his back due to his medical conditions.
Hunters devote themselves to accomplishing hazardous tasks, all from traversing the world’s uncharted territories to locating rare items and monsters. Before becoming a Hunter, one must pass the Hunter Examination—a high-risk selection process in which most applicants end up handicapped or worse, deceased.
Ambitious participants who challenge the notorious exam carry their own reason. What drives 12-year-old Gon Freecss is finding Ging, his father and a Hunter himself. Believing that he will meet his father by becoming a Hunter, Gon takes the first step to walk the same path.
During the Hunter Examination, Gon befriends the medical student Leorio Paladiknight, the vindictive Kurapika, and ex-assassin Killua Zoldyck. While their motives vastly differ from each other, they band together for a common goal and begin to venture into a perilous world.
