Jim Ryan, president of Sony Interactive Entertainment, has announced that the price of the PlayStation 5 will be increasing in Japan, the United Kingdom, Europe, China, Australia, Canada and Mexico due to the “global economic environment”. The price change is effective immediately in all territories except Japan, the Japanese price increase will begin on the 15th of September 2022 due to the lottery system most retailers use.
The price increase will not effect the US market, which follows the trend of Sony Interactive Entertainment favouring the USA market since moving headquarters to California. Sony Interactive Entertainment is now the only console manufacturer to raise the price of both the console and games this generation, both Microsoft and Nintendo have yet to do the same despite both having the same supply issues.
