Square Enix Is Releasing A Cloud Figurine That Comes With An NFT

Square Enix has announced a new Bring Arts Final Fantasy VII Cloud Figurine, the figurine itself is based on the original version of Cloud and costs $129,99. Square Enix will also be releasing a “Digital Plus Edition” variant of the figurine, the first of its kind, that comes with a “digital certificate of authenticity and digital version of the figure” (an NFT) that can be “enjoyed on PC or Smart Phone” through a dedicated website. The Digital Plus Edition will cost $159,99.

Earlier this year Square Enix confirmed that it was planning to enter the NFT marketplace, the announcement was met with widespread criticism. Following the sale of Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal, and Square Enix Montreal to the Embracer Group Square Enix confirmed that funds generated from the sale would not be used toward NFTs or blockchain investments. Despite this Square Enix still confirmed that it would continue to pursue NFTs.
