Sony Interactive Entertainment has invested in AccelByte, a software firm that provides backend tools and services for live-service games. It’s currently unclear as to how much Sony Interactive Entertainment invested and for what stake but AccelByte has raised over $60 million in a funding round in which Galaxy Interactive, NetEase and SoftBank. AccelByte was co-founded by Junaili Lie, the director of online technology at Epic Games. Sony Group has confirmed that it plans to release 10 live-service games by 2026. Sony has also increased its stake in Epic Game, formed several partnerships with independent studios to work on live-service titles and entered into an agreement to acquire Bungie as part of its live-service push.
