Famitsu has reported that the PlayStation 5 has sold over 1,528,183 units in Japan as of the 3rd of April 2022, around 1.3 million of that is from sales of the disc version of the console. The PS5 is still tracking ahead of the PS4 in Japan, the system is also facing severe stock shortages with retailers using a lottery system to sell consoles.  Both the PS5 and Xbox Series in Japan are also being picked up by scalpers who are importing the consoles to sell in the West and in other parts of Asia. Sony Interactive Entertainment has yet to comment on the milestone achievement.
