Yosuke Matsuda, president of Square Enix, has revealed that Eidos-Montréal’s Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy sales failed to meet expectations. Matsuda-san claims that despite the positive reviews sales for the game still “undershot initial expectations”. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy failed to top the NPD and UK Boxed charts during its launch month. It is also the second consecutive Marvel game from Square Enix to perform below expectations. Square Enix has not yet revealed sales figures.

Here’s what Matsuda-san had to say:

Despite strong reviews, the game’s sales on launch undershot our initial expectations. However, sales initiatives that we kicked off in November 2021 and continued into the new year have resulted in sales growth, and we intend to work to continue to expand sales to make up for the title’s slow start.
