Masayoshi Yokoyama, director at Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, has confirmed that the studio is working on a new game that is not related to the Yakuza or Judgment franchises. Yokoyama-san did not specify as to whether the title is a new IP. Yokoyama-san also confirmed that the development of Yakuza 8 (tentative title) is progressing and that the game is set several years after Yakuza: Like a Dragon. Ichiban Kasuga, protagonist of Yakuza: Like a Dragon, will return as the protagonist in Yakuza 8. No other details about the game were revealed.

Yokoyama-san has also confirmed that the Judgment IP is “very important” to everyone at Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio but did not specify if they are working on a new game in the series. An expansion for Lost Judgement, titled The Kaito Files Story Expansion” is due out in 2022. Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio is now over 300 strong and Yokoyama-san claims that the studio wants to work on more titles outside the Yakuza and Judgment series.
