Naoki Yoshida, director of the Endwalker expansion for Final Fantasy XIV, has announced that the MMORPG (massively-multiplayer online role-playing game) has surpassed 24 million players. Yoshida-san, also known as Yoshi-P, confirmed that Final Fantasy XIV is the most profitable game in the series and that Square Enix will be increasing investment in the game, saying that “no expense would be spared”. This shouldn’t come as a surprise as Final Fantasy XIV is not free and it requires a $12.99 subscription in order to play the game. The game’s popularity has also surged in recent months as World of Warcraft players began a mass exodus due to Activision Blizzard’s treatment of employees, story issues, lack of regular content updates and more.
