Famitsu has reported that the PlayStation 5 has sold over 1,012,656 units in Japan, 847,421 units of the standard and 165,235 units of the Digital Edition. The PS5 took 43 weeks to hit the 1 million milestone whereas the PlayStation 4 took almost a full year to hit the 1 million mark in Japan. The PS5 remains sold out in Japan and retails are now using a lottery system to determine who can buy a console. Both the PS5 and Xbox Series in Japan are also being picked up by scalpers who are importing the consoles to sell in the West and in other parts of Asia. Sony Interactive Entertainment has yet to comment on the milestone achievement.
