Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that the PlayStation 5 has sold over 10 million units worldwide as of the 18th of July 2021, this makes the PS5 the fastest-selling console of all time in the United States. The PS5 is also the fastest-selling PlayStation platform of all time but is still suffering from stock shortages. Sony Interactive Entertainment also revealed sales figures for first-party games on the PS5:
- Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales: Over 6.5 million copies across the PS4 and PS5
- MLB The Show 21: Over 2 million copies across the PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series
- Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart: Over 1.1 million copies on the PS5
- Returnal: Over 560,000 copies on the PS5
Here’s what Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, had to say:
I can’t express enough the deep gratitude we feel for our passionate community of PlayStation fans who have embraced PS5, and the world-class development and publishing partners who bring such incredible gaming experiences to our platforms. While PS5 has reached more households faster than any of our previous consoles, we still have a lot of work ahead of us as demand for PS5 continues to outstrip supply. I want gamers to know that while we continue to face unique challenges throughout the world that affect our industry and many others, improving inventory levels remains a top priority for SIE.
