A new report from DigiTimes, a Taiwanese business website, has reported that a new PlayStation 5 redesign will be entering production at TSMC sometime between the second and third quarters of 2022. The redesign will include a “new semi-customized” 6nm CPU from AMD that is cheaper than the 5nm one that is currently being used.
The redesign models are unlikely to include any major exterior changes but it could feature subtle tweaks as was the case with the PlayStation 4 which was made lighter and more efficient. The only exterior change that accompanied that design was the changing of the glossy faceplate for one with a matte finish.
