Shinjuku police have arrested a 39-year old Japanese man in the Saitama prefecture for allegedly sending several death threats to Square Enix employees. According to police, the man sent 37 threatening messages to Square Enix customer support from the 2nd to the 19th of November 2020, some of which stated that he would kill game designers for making a game with “such unfair rules”.
These threats led to Square Enix cancelling a livestream scheduled to air on the 20th of November 2020. The police did not reveal the game the man was referring to. This is the third time within a two year period that Japanese residents have sent death threats to Square Enix employees, all of which led to arrests.
