Ghost of Tsushima fans in Japan have helped to raise over ¥27 million (around $260,000) for a crowdfunding project to restore Tsushima’s Watatsumi Shrine. The official crowdfunding page and Famitsu have both stated that a significant portion of the backers were fans of Sucker Punch Productions’ Ghost of Tsushima, which is of course set in Tsushima island.

The crowdfunding project was seeking ¥5 million to restore the Torii gate at Tsushima’s Watatsumi Shrine, over 5 times the required amount was raised. The restoration of the Torii gate is scheduled to begin in April 2021 and a stone monument of backers that donated over ¥10,000 will be constructed within the year, although COVID-19 could impact the schedule.
