Ubisoft has added the “Permanent XP Boost” to the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla in-game storefront, the XP boost can be purchased for 1000 helix credits (around $10 in real money) and gives you a permanent XP boost of 50%. The same XP boost was also available in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. The microtransaction has been added into the game well after the review period for the game, similarly with Call of Duty games. Ubisoft has insisted that the XP boost did not have any impact on the design of the game but charging players so that they can enjoy a game by having to play less does seem to contradict that.
Here’s what Ubisoft had to say:
As more and more post-launch content becomes available, we want to give the option to players to advance their progression. Utilities allow players who lack the time to fully explore the world of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla to be able to acquire the game’s best gear, as well as other items, by accelerating their progress. For instance, these players can purchase maps that uncover some interesting locations in the world, but would still have to visit and play them to get their rewards.
